Seth Godin on Fast Track Coaching
- February 25th, 2011Seth Godin needs no introduction. The best-selling author of a dozen books and marketing revolutionary recently made the news when he announced he was walking away from traditional book publishing and using the tools of new media to bring his (and his colleagues’) ideas to the world in a new way.
Amazon is working with him to create The Domino Project, a new kind of book publishing venture, one that will redefine both what it means to be a publisher and what we think of as a book.
So, when the opportunity to apply to join his Street Team – a rag tag group of zealots who believe this kind of idea isn’t just important to writers… but critical to all who practice in the creative professions – I jumped at it and was very fortunate to be accepted.
This idea has huge implications for the photography community.
Want a peek at their 1st experiment? Go ahead & Poke the Box. Want to Poke the Box for a buck? Do that here.
The other day, Seth sat down with the street team (virtually) and began sharing even more about DP’s big picture.
As he was talking I got inspired to ask if he’d be willing to join in our conversation.
Since Fast Track Coaching is all about inspiring our industry to spread what matters too – to be courageous… to step out – he graciously said yes.
That conversation will be broadcast here on Tuesday (see times above). I hope it inspires you to poke the box too!

Wow, great interview!
I was especially hit right at 17:00 when he said something like “if you take average pictures for average clients, stop. That industry is over.” Then he said some really profound comments right afterwards that people HAVE to hear for themselves.

Awesome interview with THE marketing guru of our time. Thank you for making this happen, his advice for photographers is pure gold.
The section on adding value to what you do as a photographer, beyond just creating and delivering art, is fantastic.
So many great quotes, but one of the best that I plan to share with my blog readers (ProAm photogs), “Realize that’s your job, to tell a story, and you’ll get better at telling the story. Sometimes professionals forget what they sell isn’t the final product.”
It’s a new age. Thank you again for sharing this great interview!

I literally. I mean, LITERALLY just got done writing a rough draft blog post on those who scare me. Which are those who scrutinize, mock, and laugh. I had goosebumps run up my arms when the topic of such came up in this interview. Thank. You. SO SO MUCH!

[...] In a recent conversation, Seth Godin noted that all you used to need to succeed as a pro photographer were (a) access to tools and (b) access to talent. He believed this was so because of his belief that where there is scarcity, there is value. Since neither tools nor talent are scarce any longer, success can feel elusive. [...]
